The performance of the German State Theatre Timisoara (GSTT), „Spring Awakening” by Frank Wedekind, directed by Charles Muller, realized as a coproduction between Théâtre Municipal de la Ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette in Luxemburg, has been included in the official selection of the 2017 National Theatre Festival (NTF), which will be from the 20th untill the 30th of October 2017 in Bucharest.

On the 5th of July 2017, through a live transmission on the official site of the NTF, the theatre critic Marina Constantinescu announced the official selection of the 27th edition, of which there are 53 performances.

The direction for the performance „Spring Awakening” is signed by Charles Muller from Luxembourg. Set design is by Helmut Stürmer, costumes by Ioana Popescu and light-design is done by Philippe Lacombe. Soundtrack is composed by Miruna Boruzescu. The cast brings together actors Richard Hladik, Radu Vulpe, Ioana Iacob, Silvia Török, Enikő Blénessy, Radu Brănici, Rareș Hontzu, Niko Becker, Aljoscha Cobeț, Harald Weisz, Horia Săvescu, Isa Berger, Ioana Nițulescu, Oana Vidoni, Franz Kattesch, Konstantin Keidel, Daniela Török, Boris Gaza, Isolde Cobeț, Cristian Rudic and Ida Jarcsek-Gaza. For the role of Moritz in this performance, GSTT actor Radu Brănici was nominated at the 2017 Awards Gala of the Theaterical Union in Romania (UNITER), for the Debut category.

Frank Wedekind processed the morality befitting urges, life into his plays. He unmasked it as hypocrisy and set it in front of a vision of the world that celebrates life and sexuality. The freedom and beauty of the people that embrace sexuality was only found in the socially excluded: the circus, crooks and whores, even if they appear in a distorted form. The play „Spring Awakening” maintains it’s actuality „because prejudices long thought gone as well as double hypocritical morality still haunt or day to day, through our society, through politics, religion and last but not least through today’s political correctness”, considers the show’s set designer, Helmut Stürmer.
